Japandi Inspired Living Space
Today we are sharing another client reveal, our Japandi Fusion. Japandi is a minimalist design trend that is the fusion of traditional Japanese elegance with the modern-rustic aesthetic of Scandinavian design. It is characterized by it’s simplicity and clean lines while embracing minimalism and functionality.
For this young family we worked on updating the main floor living spaces including the Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen.
One distinguishing characteristic of Japandi design is contrast. Light blonde woods of typical Scandinavian influence are mixed with darker wood tones (here we have used walnut pieces) and black to create balance, symmetry and interest.
We used a larger subway tile backsplash in the kitchen with an asymmetric mix of both matte and gloss white tiles to create a modern take on an otherwise classic backsplash style.
We sourced a beautiful vintage walnut dining table of mid-century design which has the most beautiful corner detailing (subtle yet eye-catching).
The client had some beautiful fabrics from their collection which they had framed and used as artwork in both the Living Room and Dining Room. The black and white Marimekko piece in the dining room adds both elegance and drama to the space (I am so in love with this piece).
